9.1.2026 Update

Thanks are in order to everybody that hung out, donated their time or their money or participated in any way at our 4th block party! What a great day.

We started with coffee and snacks provided by Aaron and Annie. I also heard that Nora and Andres brought those great cookies from Guatelinda Bakery. Thanks for getting all of that out early for us.

Then we had a surprise set of live music. It was so perfect, thanks Edgardo for having them come by early and arranging that.

A big thanks to Richard for running the Connect4 Tournament. It went supersmooth and congratulations to Mateo for being our first ever champion. Here is proof, he won an airbrush tshirt from Milton. Congratulations to Ruby and Chris on 2nd and 3rd place, and also to Mateo on being a senior and so close to graduating high school.

We also had a performance by Christian Robinson aka Rich Robbins toward the end of the party. He did a few numbers while our DJ Javier was still set up. It was so great and here are a few pics of the man in action. Check out his recordings when you have a chance. Rich Robbins – Spotify

8.25.2026 Update

Hello Party Blockers,
We have just 5 days to go until the block party on Saturday. You will see the red No Parking signs that are up on the trees along the street. It would be great if everybody would move their vehicles by 8am on Saturday. The block party is scheduled to start at 10am and if there are still cars on the street, they will be in the way during set up. Please consider moving them on Friday if possible.
Do you know anybody that is out of town that won’t be able to move their car? Are there any cars that wont start? Please see what you can do to help with that.
If you have any folding tables or coolers, please have them ready on Saturday. There is a good chance we will want to use them.
We also never seem to have enough garbage and recycle cans out. If you have anything that you can set out on the sidewalk or street, it would be a huge help!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Our friend Memo Mata up at 2910 N Sawyer has informed me that he will be hosting a “Meet and Greet” with Alderman Anthony Quezada on Sunday, Aug 30th. This will be at his house starting at 11am, the day after the block party. Memo would like for anybody in the neighborhood to attend!

Hello everybody. I apologize if the communication was confusing. This message is intended to clear it up.
On Sunday August 23rd, there will be live music in the front yard of 2838 N Sawyer. This is the home of Barry and Charlene. This is not the Block Party. This is live music performed by 3 or 4 local artists/bands and will be from about 2pm-5pm.
On Saturday August 29th, we will be having our annual block party. The street will be closed to cars, there will be a bounce house, food, kids activities, etc. There is no live music planned for the block party on August 29th (not yet anyway).

Hola a todos. Pido disculpas si la comunicación anterior resultó confusa; este mensaje tiene como objetivo aclarar la situación.
El domingo 23 de agosto habrá música en vivo en el jardín delantero de la casa ubicada en el 2838 de N. Sawyer (el hogar de Barry y Charlene). No se trata de la fiesta vecinal (Block Party), sino de una presentación musical a cargo de 3 o 4 artistas o bandas locales, programada aproximadamente de 2:00 p. m. a 5:00 p. m.
El sábado 29 de agosto celebraremos nuestra fiesta vecinal anual. La calle estará cerrada al tráfico vehicular y habrá un castillo inflable, comida, actividades para niños, etc. No hay música en vivo prevista para la fiesta del 29 de agosto (al menos, no por el momento).

The plans for the August 29th block party are moving along smoothly and we are still asking for donations and volunteer sign-ups. Thank you for checking the website.

On Sunday August 23, the weekend before the block party, there will be LIVE MUSIC (weather permitting) in the front yard of 2838 N Sawyer, the home of Barry and Charlene. The start time will be approximately 2pm and will probably last around 3-4 hours. There are many artists/musicians in the neighborhood, so we want to support them and have some fun outside. Please come check it out if you have some time.

2 Months To Go until August 29th

Hello everybody, we hope the summer is treating you well. The weekend is here and the Logan Square Arts Festival is back. Maybe go over and get something to eat and see some live music. Or don’t, why would I tell you what to do? Do whatever you want, it’s your weekend.
But anyway I want to make a suggestion. We are 2 months away from the block party on August 29th. Please consider donating to the block party fund if you haven’t already, here is why.
If we raise $1200, we will break even with what we know we need to pay for.
We have only received $500.
It would be great if we could raise $2000. That way we could have enough money, we can have money to use at Halloween, and hopefully next summer we still have some and don’t need to start from $0.

Block Party update and Happy Memorial Day

For 2026 we have decided that we are going to stick with what works. We have requested the CPD Fire Truck, we will have a bounce house, and we will be cooking in the street potluck style. Most of the usual sights and attractions will be happening again.
We will not be spending money for something like the mechanical bull or the double dutch jump ropers, like we have done in the past. Those are not cheap and so we think it will be ok to take a break from something like that this year. Besides, we need to make sure we can afford the things that we really need…like beer.
It will be a huge help and more fun if any of our neighbors want to show off their talents. Do you play music or do you dance? Honestly that kind of entertainment would be the best and more meaningful. Please consider it.

We will be also be asking for help with the cooking and food prep. We really need some people to mind the grills and the food in shifts. Something like 1 or 2 hour shifts would work well, but we can figure that out later.
We also never had the Connect4 tournament last year because there was just so much going on all day for anybody to organize and run it! A senseless tragedy. This year we neeeeed to have a Connect4 tournament.

These are just vague ideas we have to try to make sure we have another excellent block party, we’ll be talking to you all more in the next couple months!

AUGUST 29, 2026 will be the date of our 4th Summer Block Party! Plans are coming together. Family and friends are all invited. If you have any ideas please share them.

Halloween Block Party – Sunday Oct. 26, 2025

Hello friends and neighbors, we hope this October is treating you well.

Thank you for the donations that have been coming in, they mean so much and they are a huge help.

Our order of 20 pumpkins from Carniceria Ruiz came in, so they are up for grabs for everyone on the front porch at 2838. Please take one or two and the we’ll use the rest for carving on Sunday.

Does anybody have any carving kits that they can bring? I’m not sure what happened to all of the tools we had last year. Any other supplies like stickers or paints are welcome, please bring them if you have them.

We are encouraging some trick-or-treating, so it would be great if people wear a costume and that neighbors will have candy to give out. There is also some candy for everybody. It’s not a ton, but if you need some for the little trick-or-treat-ers please let us know. It’s not going to be left on the front porch with the pumpkins. Walgreens and other stores still have their shelves stocked with good deals on big bags of candy.

We are still planning on the main area being at the front yard of 2835 and The Garage of Doom up at 2855.

Oh yeah, and we have a piñata!

August 2025 Block Party Pictures!

We have a date for the summer block party, August 23, 2025!

We are planning everything now and the events include some of our favorites from the last two years.

We have a mechanical bull ride reserved from 2pm – 5pm! So go find your cowboy hat and western shirt and get ready to see how long you can go. You probably should do some stretching beforehand, too.

Bounce house — We will receive the bounce house between 10am and 2pm. The bounce house will picked up and taken between 2pm and 6pm

Kids tent — Rock painting, pinch pots, games

Dante’s pizza, potluck and grilling, ice cream truck, beer, T-shirts, games, face painting, DJ and dancing, a dance class, piñata, etc…

We hope to get a visit from the Chicago Fire Department with a fire truck, but we’ll just have to wait and see on that…

**We are planning to start at 9am-10am with more of a coffee and donuts type start to the day. We want to provide coffee, tea, bagels, donuts, etc. If you can contribute or suggest anything like that, we would be grateful!
This will also be a great way for people to hang out for a little bit if they are not going to able to hang out later in the day or the evening.

Please consider making a donation before the block party, it would be very helpful. It is the generous donations from our friends and neighbors that pays for almost all of these things.

Halloween 2024

Our Halloween on the block was a lot of fun, thank you so much to everybody for getting involved. It’s great to see so many neighbors get together and do something fun for the kids. And the nice weather doesn’t hurt!
